Is booktube in general becoming more commercialised or has it always been that way? The popular people always used to get free books and stuff to promote of course, but I feel like more recently some people don’t even upload non-sponsored videos anymore. Now they’re getting book deals themselves. Blergh.

i agree that its’ getting more commerialized but i’m confused as to how because none of them even have that many subscribers in the grand scheme of youtube

ChapterStackss is one of my favorites. That’s What She Read, abookolive, Lauren and the Books, and UnderTheRadarBooks are worth checking out. Alita Joy is a good BookTuber but rarely posts videos anymore.

Can anyone suggest booktubers that kinda steer clear of YA? Just getting into booktube and it seems everyone is talking about mostly YA 🙁

I’m at a point where Christine is on my last nerves. Her personality isn’t quirky it is just downright obnoxious… I love that she didn’t read Fault in Our Stars until they offered her an interview with the leads in the movie… And she is a horrible interviewer.

Jesse clearly has a shopping addiction for books based on the amount of books that he personally buys, not to mention the amount of books that he lets publishers send him. I don’t even think he reads 90% of the books on his shelf. Personally, I don’t have an issue with stocking up on a decent amount of books but 20+ while you already have 150+ books to read is ridicules.

I don’t understand how Sasha had enough money to move to Texas just to write a book. Especially, if she didn’t have enough money to stay in school. Her subscriber base is definitely not large enough for her to afford an apartment that size on her  own, let alone then go travel to Ireland right as she moves there. Which makes me think her father is still paying for everything and she convinced him it be cheaper to pay for an apartment than a college tuition…

The things that really drive me nuts are the obsession they all seem to have with Harry Potter and The Mortal Instruments books. Like it almost seems like the only books that anyone on Booktube have actually read.

Yes to Welldonebooks, ChapterStackss, Jeans Bookishthoughts, Jen Campbell, MercysBookishMusings, Reads and Daydreams and WhatKamilReads!

There are a lot of really great non-sponsored Booktubers who don’t read exclusively YA but they are smaller and you do have to search for them. I feel like Christine, Katy, Jesse, Tasha, Sasha, etc. give BookTube that nerdy lame reputation but there are so many amazing content creators who are making great videos and discussions.

    A bunch of recommendations:

    • BooksandLala (well spoken, reads a lot of thrillers, very creative) – a favorite!
    • mynameismarines (reads a bit of YA but reads critically and does not just agree with the majority opinion, does amazing collabs with other booktubers, focuses on diversity) – a favorite!
    • RinceyReads (reads mostly adult, works for BookRiot, can be a bit dull but worth checking out imo)
    • Unmanaged Mischief (good and honest reviews, good for Japanese lit recommendations)
    • bedtimebookclub (three girls who are English teachers from Australia, interesting format)
    • BooksBeautyAmeriie (love her reviews, she often notices things in books that I completely miss) – a favorite!
    • robotnic (similar to Jen Campbell, Jeans Bookishthougts and MercysBookishMusings – they might actually all know each other IRL or have at least met each other)
    • WoolfsWhistle (great for LGBTQ+ recommendations)
    • perpetualpages (good for middle grade, LGBTQ+ and fantasy recommendations) – a favorite!
    • SFF180 (is a professional reviewer on all things science fiction and fantasy)
    • Kalandai (also great for science fiction and fantasy recommendations/reviews)

Some booktubers I don’t watch as often or post as much but are still worth checking out:

    • squibblesreads (she actually stopped making videos but her backlog is still up and definitely worth checking out, great views, focuses on diversity) – a favorite!
    • View From the Bar (reminds me of Kamil but doesn’t post as often, good for Stephen King reviews and movie reviews as well)
    • PixieTonic
    • ReadingBukowski
    • RGsDevilship (reads a lot of thrillers, dark, horror, etc, very intense personality)
    • SCSreads (i believe she’s friendly with WellDoneBooks and has similar tastes as Max)
    • TheBookFox
    • ThePoptimist
    • MollieReads
    • Melbourne on my Mind (very honest, can be a bit harsh but good reviews)
    • LiteraryDiversions
    • littlespider9
    • lizlovesliterature
    • Francia Simone

These booktubers read mostly YA but I still enjoy them over some of the bigger aforementioned ones:

    • Between Chapters (honest opinions even on hyped books)
    • shemightbemonica (thoughtful reviews and discussions on diversity) – a favorite!
    • Michael BookLion (not the most thoughtful reviews aka mostly hauls but he is hilarious)
    • PeruseProject (I used to like her a lot more as she has a lot of sponsored videos now but she reads a lot of high fantasy and historical fiction so she’s good for recommendations – her bookclub with Sasha is just sponsored crap though)
    • sarawithoutanH (similar to Michael BookLion, not many reviews but creative/funny/entertaining)
    • Thoughts on Tomes (reads a lot of YA fantasy, can get kind of annoying but does a lot of reviews and is honest)

Okay not sure why I went so hard on this post but I hope it was helpful!!!!!  :bye:
